Describes her book - “...Follow up to the interview:<br />Describes her book - “It’s really what I call a greatest hits,” laughs Kaplan. “The story, I guess, if there is a story, of this book is to chart the history of black LA.”<br /><br />“Issues are a big wall,” she begins (pronouncing the word ‘issues’ as if it has a capital ‘I’). “We’ve all read newspaper stories about how we’re not doing stuff right. The statistics just keep coming. The progress [in South Los Angeles] has been stunted — at best. So what I did was put myself in the position of storyteller and just said, ‘What’s going on?
